OFF TO AFRICA…

Dear Prayer Warriors,

I was reading this passage in the airport today and it struck me that the Lord was giving it to me specifically for this coming trip.

“Look among the nations and watch;
Be utterly astounded!
For I will work a work in your days
Which you would not believe,
though it were told you.”

Habakkuk 1:5

The contrast between dark skin and bright smiles is the most beautiful site to behold in Africa. This continent is both huge and ripe for the gospel. I invite you will join with me as we reach out with the love and hope that is found in the name of Jesus Christ. Modern technology enables us to partner in prayer as we head into the villages, prisons, schools and cities of Malawi. In addition to following updates on the Blog, Facebook and Twitter most of all I need your prayers. AIDS has left gaping hole in the culture here. The devil is wanting to claim the next generation for his bidding. There is a Muslim invasion in Africa like no other place in the world. Time is short. We are excited to be here and ask you to pray for the Spirit of Christ to be released in this land in a life changing way.

I once heard someone say that the Mission of the Church is Missions. I believe that’s true and covet your prayer for these next several days. As the great missionary David Livingston said, “without Christ, not one step. With Him, anywhere.”

Livingston was also famous for saying this (may it challenge you as it has me) “If you have men who will only come if they know there is a good road, I don’t want them. I want men who will come if there is no road at all.” Let’s in prayer may we be the one’s who launch out in bridging the Gap with the Gospel both at home and to the uttermost parts of the world.

Zikomo and God bless,

Pastor Bob

  • Pastor Bob-
Praying for you and the team all the way for safe travels, protection and provision, for many to see Jesus magnified, for the Holy Spirit to move in the hearts of the Malawi people, and that many will come to a saving knowledge and saving faith in Jesus. Can’t wait to read the praise reports!

‘So they said to him, “Please inquire of God, that we may know whether the journey on which we will go will be prosperous.” And the priest said to them, “Go in peace. The presence of the Lord be with you on your way.” ‘
    Judges 18:5-6

  • Praying for you and the team, I think the below verse applies.

Joshua 1:9- Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.”

  • From our family, all the prayers for you and the group to continue with safe passage and return.

May the ears of despair be blessed to not only hear the message of Christ, but allow those without hope to finally be lifted in his glory so that their country can rise from the ashes of darkness and into the light of The Lord.

  • Pastor Bob,

We are all praying for you and the team. May the Lord poor out his Spirit on all of Africa from you all. Blessings flow from Him.

  • I was wondering why the need to go to Africa and not work with the people here in America?

There are currently an estimated 1.3 million homeless and street kids in America. Children makeup 27 percent—the fastest growing segment—of the U.S. homeless population.

You are spending all that time and money to go to Africa to make yourself feel fulfilled but completely blind to what is happening to the children here in America.

You have strange priorities. It would have been more effective to send all the money you spent on ticket’s and will be spending on food to the orphanages and missionaries already there. Or better yet to have taken that money and feed some of the homeless in your own community and preached to them. What about the generations of homeless children here in America and their impact on our society?

  • Giovanna,
Who is the accuser of the brethren? Revelation 12:10
Cynicism and criticism are not spiritual gifts, even though one may be very good at them.

You might rather consider praying along with so many others for Pastor Bob and the team with him for God’s protection and provision, and travel safety while serving these wonderful kids and families in Africa that too do not have much. You might also be praying for the the people of Africa.

    I’m praying for you…

  • Roger, my post came from love. Love for what Christ really stands for and the people struggling here in our own country. The funny thing about criticism when you point it out as you did, then you it also applies to yourself. You do not know what was in my heart you merely read the words and decided my intent based on your beliefs and not mine.

There is a fine line between grace and ego, sometimes you have to step back in your life to truly examine your motives and choices to make sure it’s truly coming through our love of Christ and not arrogance of the ego.

    Pastor Bob and team,

It warms my heart to see the pictures of the children that you are ministering to out in Africa. Matthew 28:19 tells us to go and make disciples of all nations. We have so much here in America and they have so little out in Africa. We have been praying for all of you and it brings us joy to hear your reports.

    Giovanna,

Perhaps you do not know that Horizon Christian Fellowship has a very active local homeless outreach.

  • So why is Pastor Bob spending all this time and money going to another country when there is so much still to be done here in this country? Other than praying with people what is the real purpose of going? There is always more to be done other than an outreach to homeless. What about the 15.3 million people here in this country who are unemployed many are struggling to make ends meet, put food on the table. They are saying to get the unemployment rate back down to the 5-6% rate is going to take up to 4 years. Unemployment benefits don’t run that long. If we don’t start putting things in place in our communities now more are going to become homeless. Put the money into community gardens, try to get contracts from large food distributors to donate each month to the local food banks, etc… I have personally gone into the homes of people struggling here in this country and the conditions of how they are living breaks my heart.

As for Malawi if you really want to help give a pencil or build a School Block

Each school has problems that can be solved with your help. Whether you raise $5000 to build a school block or $50 to send pencils and paper, each donation will be received with open arms. Support for this assignment is being coordinated by Kamala Bauers. She is enlisting the help of a number of primary schools in Floyd County to adopt a Malawian school and raise funds to assist them.

A secondary goal is to establish sustainable links between schools in the U.S. and schools in Malawi. The underlying motivation is that through education, the health care of the students, their families and communities will improve. We believe that the awareness of international differences, at a young age will inspire aspirations for aid.

Maybe a solution would be to link the school Pastor Bob runs with a school for orphans in Malawi creating a leaning experience for both countries.

  • David would it surprise you to learn America has the most AIDS orphans in the Western world, but you’d hardly know. As Madonna and Angelina Jolie comb the world for orphans, American children who have lost parents to AIDS seem to have no celebrity champions. None of the big foundations, from the Clinton Foundation to the Gates Foundation to Bono’s Red Campaign, give any assistance to American AIDS orphans. Not one dime.

  • Here is the line that troubles me most:

“The devil is wanting to claim the next generation for his bidding. There is a Muslim invasion in Africa like no other place in the world. Time is short.”

Whenever religions call each other evil and try to outbid each other in a competition to save souls, humanity suffers. Christianity should take a lesson from Christ’s religion, Judiasm, which does not try to convert people to its way nor judge them as being damned if they follow a different way.

  • You, Pastor Bob, should be on the list of top 100 most influential people with billion of tweets( not Ashton Kutcher)! You reminded us Sunday, that His Word, daily, will guide us, take away fears, answers our ?, and deepens our faith. Even when we know this, we need reminders! More of Him, and less of the World! Thank you for being an amazing pastor! With love for Him, Carrie

  • Fine job gents… May God bless you beyond your dreams… Give you all the insight you need …and may Grace Mercy, Peace, Harmony and most of all Love, be your constant companions. May Wisdom steer the boat Christ be the navigator, and the Holy Spirit fill the sails.

  • Giovanna… I would take careful consideration with your objections towards Pastor Bob before you voice them. God’s word plainly states in Mark 16:15 “He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation.”. Pastor Bob IS living out God’s very word and that’s why God did amazing life changing things in Africa. Your opinion of where He should be serving has no meaning because of Mark 16. If God opens up the door to “Go into all the world”, and the specific place is then revealed by leading of God, then this does not say that local ministry is less important or that there isn’t a need here in America. Give Bob a break. He’s serving the Lord and can’t go into all the world all at the same time… he’s not God.

  • God specifically told Pastor Bob to go to Africa and spend all that money to get there and then travel in Europe? Where’s the proof in that? Christ’s disciples live to serve God, not self. My point is that if he truly was supposed to help in Africa there are ministers already there. The money he spent to get there and travel around to Germany would have done greater good by giving it directly to the people who are already there. So let’s play the scripture game then. Luke 14:33 – In the same way, any of you who does not give up everything he has cannot be my disciple. Pastor Bob is so ready to point out another person’s sin but yet he is not setting a very good example by spending all that wealth traveling around instead of giving it to those that truly need it. That is hypocrisy.

  • Listen, I really don’t know what good you are trying to accomplish other than complain about things that aren’t your place. I am way more inclined to trust “Pastor” Bobs intuition and discernment on matters that have to be a no brainer between him and God. If Pastor Bob is fighting against God’s will concerning the kind of steward he should be then, His ministry would fail. Well, it’s not. It’s growing. Fast. Not in riches as much as souls saved and disciples made. I don’t know. I would think twice before calling out such a Man of Godly stature.

  • That is exactly the point Spike. That is what is wrong with the Christian churches and why so many are turning away from them. The best example is what is happening with the Catholic church. Pastors, Ministers and Bishops are so caught up in their own egos, the power of the church, that they make people afraid to question their intent. Why do you think there is such diversity even when it comes to the subject of homosexuality? There are better educated Ministers, Pastors and Bishops out there saying it’s not a sin. You can not put Pastor Bob on a pedestal, he is simply a man who has chosen to make his career in religion. There are far more educated people out there than Pastor Bob. Remember Spike that when you say it’s a no brainier it’s between him and God then why did Pastor Bob not feel the same way when it came to Jennifer Knapp? He didn’t so he demonstrated your “no brainier” is not true.

  • By the way Spike in case your wondering why I say people are turning away from the church.

ARIS, the American Religious Identification Survey 2008 showed that the challenge to Christianity in the U.S. does not come from other religions but rather from a rejection of all forms of organized religion.

The U. S. population continues to show signs of becoming less religious, with one out of every five Americans failing to indicate a religious identity in 2008

It does make you wonder why so many are being turning away. The power of the churches are being viewed as corrupt as more religious leaders duplicities are exposed.

  • Giovanna,

Do you believe Jesus is Lord and Savior of your life? Just curious.

  • Giovanna,
Please give the tired and hackneyed argument a rest. The vitriol is so unnecessary. You have had not one encouraging word since you showed up, and your criticism of Pastor Bob has gone on way too long. I am asking you to stop.

I know you have some kind and encouraging words in you, and think you really admire Pastor Bob and how the Lord is using him to share the love of Jesus here and abroad.

I want to encourage you. Jesus loves you.

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct your paths.” – Proverbs 3:5-6

  • Roger the problem is he went on national TV to denounce Jennifer Knapp trying to tell the world she is a sinner. The argument of homosexuality is ongoing and there are Pastors, ministers and bishops more educated than Bob saying it’s not a sin. It’s for that reason that many will not take the steps necessary to come and be saved in Christ for fear of condemnation of those obstinate in their prejudice.

I am sure Pastor Bob is making a ton of money off this religious gig he has going. Has anyone ever asked him how much he makes running that school and what type of house he lives in? Greed is the wrong example to be demonstrating as a follower of Christ. If you look at all the trips he has done around the world then do the math that money would have been better spent helping those in need than fulfilling a personal desire.

No I do not admire Pastor Bob he has brought shame to Christianity through his actions with Jennifer Knapp.

  • When you read this today doesn’t it make you realize why Christians in America need to look inward to this country, start helping out and get more involved in their communities.

About 15.6 million children are estimated to be living in poverty this year, but study authors say this number will start going down.

This year, as many as 500,000 children may be homeless in the United States, according to the report.

Children living in families in which neither parent has secure employment will rise to about 20 million this year, up 4 percent from 2006.

Also, many children live in households where all members do not have access to enough safe and nutritious foods. From 2007 to 2010, an additional 750,000 children are estimated to live in food-insecure households, the report said.

  • PB, I’m glad you were able to go to Africa and bring a message of hope to people who hunger for more than food. Ultimately in the end it is that spiritual food that will allow us to live beyond death.

I’m honored and blessed that my small contribution allowed the church to send you and also sponsor the many ministries here in SD. Our Military Outreach is so needed. I used to assume that the Military was “taken care of” by the Gov, but there just isn’t enough there that could heal the wounds of the mind and heart. I came to learn about Care House, the homeless teens ministry, through Horizon RSF and continue to be plugged in and try and support when I can. When I got my job, I was excited to tell the director that I could contribute again.

I have it easy here in my living room sending out a contribution or two from my online checking account. I didn’t even have to put on make-up! I love all the talky talk about the goodness of doing this or that, but I admire those that take action.

For all those people who make our domestic and world-wide missions possible (the missionaries, the church support, the administration, the prayer warriors, the contributors, and all their families)…a shout out to you!
