Happy Mother’s Day Church! It’s amazing to think what our moms have done for us over the years; everything from feeding us when we were little to making sure we were dressed and ready for our first day of school. Such faithful love to
make sure we were “put together.”

This weekend we took a look at God as our Ultimate Interior Designer. Too often, we dismiss His design in our lives, assuming that we can design our hearts better than He can. What we see in scripture is a careful, thought-out, specific design for each one of us. In Ephesians 2, we are called “His workmanship,” His handiwork. We are His masterpiece, His treasured work of art. If we are left to design ourselves, what we create is a giant mess. Yet He faithfully saves us from ourselves, designing us to be like Jesus.

Are We There Yet?

Here we are at the end of The Crossing. Another series in the books and as we look back on the path that brought us to this point, we can see that God promises us that “We’re There.” We are complete in Christ, with the past already dealt with, the present under His control, and our future secure. He has completed a great work in us. We lack nothing. And for that we can do nothing but be in awe of the God we serve.

What an amazing weekend we had at Horizon celebrating our risen Savior and Lord. The Newsboys brought it and blessed us with incredible worship, including their hit song “God’s Not Dead.” We had hundreds of people come forward and respond to the Gospel message, making life-changing decisions for Christ. Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in Christ. Happy Easter church!

There’s nothing in God’s Word that says that our faith is to be a mystery. Don’t miss it, intellectually and emotionally! The crowd lining the streets on palm Sunday missed it. They were praising Jesus one day and condemning Him the next. It’s about God’s saving grace and nothing else! God’s hand in your life needs to be clearly evident and glorifying Him. It was a beautiful yet hard morning with the time change, I hope you all made it to church alright. First of all, I must say it has been a great weekend! We unleashed our Awakening Easter promotion today in service. Horizon has an amazing Good Friday service planned with JJ Heller, who we undoubtedly love. Joining her that night will be Steve Barton who will be painting live with my sermon. I am even more excited and pleased to say that the Newsboys will be breaking in our new outdoor stage. I just love the synergy of Newsboys with the addition of Michael Tait from DC Talk. That’s not all though, folks! Franklin Graham will be speaking for Horizon North County’s Awakening Easter service. I will be praying as I wait with anticipation and I hope to see you there!

Now down to business, I titled today’s sermon “When The Church Gets It Wrong” because I felt the Lord tugging on my heart to camp out a little longer in 2 Corinthians chapter twelve a little longer. This particular passage is Paul’s list of where the church is distracted from the True Cause. Even in the world today, the church will get it wrong when not advancing the true cause behind the ministry—that being Christ, when not seeing the work of the Kingdom as prevailing authority, when desiring power or position or prestige that we can neither handle nor be qualified for, and when misrepresenting miracles —setting God’s Word aside—while missing the signs pointing us to The Creator.

Guys, I want to encourage you not be living conflicted but rather living convicted of the Living Water. Our lives are about getting wet. Are you going to jump in? With both feet? Let’s live it out! Serve as the Lord Himself as set such an amazing example. Let’s make that our priority.

“Good Grief”

Comfort, health, lack of hardships, and church membership are only a few things that can create a false sense security in salvation. In reality, it is grief that grounds, grinds, and refines character. One’s response to grief truly reflects his or her spiritual condition. We are coming close to ending The Crossing series with the quickly approaching end of the second letter to the Corinthians and a sermon on understanding the importance of understanding grief cannot escape the series. Perhaps more importantly, though, is God’s grace for our grief. I pray that God speaks to you through this sermon on how God makes good grief a possibility.
